Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about comparing and sending money from the United States to India.
How are the rates on this site compared?
We aggregate live rates from the Wise public comparison API for a standard $1,000 USD → INR transfer and rank providers by the amount of rupees that actually arrives after the transfer fee and the exchange-rate margin. The comparison refreshes roughly every ten minutes. See the guide for the full methodology.
Why do you rank by "rupees received" instead of the exchange rate?
Because a high advertised rate can hide a transfer fee, and a "zero fee" offer can hide a wider exchange-rate margin. The only number that reflects both costs is the final payout, so that is what we sort on.
What is the exchange-rate margin?
It is the markup a provider adds on top of the true mid-market rate (the rate you see on Google or Reuters). The provider keeps the difference. It is the most common hidden cost in money transfers.
Are these the exact rates I'll get?
Treat them as indicative. Exchange rates move constantly, and your final amount can depend on your payment method, the payout method, transfer size, and any promotions. Always confirm the live quote on the provider's own website before sending.
How long does a transfer to India take?
Anywhere from minutes to a few business days. Paying by debit or credit card is usually faster than a bank transfer (ACH); bank deposits, UPI, and cash pickup in India each have different timelines. Transfers started on weekends or holidays may settle the next business day.
Is it cheaper to use my bank directly?
Usually not. Traditional banks often apply some of the widest exchange-rate margins and add wire fees. Dedicated remittance services are typically cheaper, which is why the table compares them side by side.
Do first-transfer promotions change the comparison?
They can make a provider look unbeatable for one transfer. If you plan to send money regularly, weigh the ongoing rate more heavily than a one-time bonus.
Which providers are included?
The comparison covers major USD → INR services such as Xoom, Remitly, Wise, MoneyGram, WorldRemit, Instarem, and others, plus some banks, depending on what the data source returns for the corridor at the time.
Does this site send money or charge me anything?
No. This is an independent comparison site. You complete the actual transfer on the provider's own website or app. We do not handle your money or your personal transfer details.
How does this site make money?
We may display ads and, in future, earn referral commissions when you choose a provider through our links — at no extra cost to you. This never changes how we rank results; the order is determined purely by rupees received. See About and our terms & disclaimer.
